The National Executive Power sent yesterday the projects for the promotion of hydrogen with low carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases and the promotion of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Carreras highlighted the fulfillment of the commitment made by President Alberto Fernández to raise this initiative, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Santiago Cafiero, and by the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón, in the last Global Forum on Green Hydrogen developed in Bariloche confirmed the decision.

"We are talking about a law that will set a framework for the production of hydrogen, an environmentally friendly energy; but it will also try to gradually replace certain energy consumptions that generate greenhouse gases. This does not mean that one activity goes against another," she explained.

In this regard, she emphasized the importance of the incorporation of the two projects together. "We are talking about the fact that Argentina may have a great opportunity with the development of Vaca Muerta in the coming years, but also trying to position itself in a scenario of energy transition, of renewal towards green energies. This is a very current process in Europe," she pointed out.

Concerning the private initiative project presented by the Australian company Fortescue Future, she explained that it is very advanced in the preliminary stage, which includes environmental impact studies and wind measurement. "To make the infrastructure investments that would be needed, such as the hydrogen production plant, the company requires international financing and for that a framework law is necessary. The credit entities would not grant money for projects if there is not a framework that offers reliability," she explained.

She emphasized, "There is a commitment, not only on the part of Fortescue, which is the company that has presented the private initiative, but also of other entities and companies from other countries that are looking at the possibility of developing this activity in Patagonia as a scenario of opportunity."

"We have to promote development while taking care of the environment. I believe that both things have to be there, if not, what we are going to live on. We have certain ambiguities in our way of living. We all light the stove and heat the kettle to drink some mate, and that gas is oil activity. We have to understand that it is the engine of human activity, of productive activity and of industry," said Carreras.
